Why should anyone “respect the office” of the President or any other political office?

Seriously, where does this line of thinking come from? What is inherent in a political office that is worthy of the slightest shred of respect. This is the kind of thinking that can lead to people tolerating tyranny.

We repect the office of the president (even if we dont respect the man) because its OUR office, all American citizens. So you basically said you dont respect yourself ; )

  2. Hmmm

Do as you are told and we’ll get along just fine.

Well respecting the office itself and respecting the person filling that office are two entirely different things. I do see your point, though.

There are numerous politicians that I have no respect for.

respect is earned and when a president spends all his time acting like he is the only thing that can save america when we have been doing well for 200 years ..the way obama acts is that if we don’t do things his way we will be doomed to failure and i don’t agree with that

Respecting the office is not the same as bowing down to. Obama wants people to revere him- which no one does.

I don’t think you should respect the office simply because it is what it is. An element here is that we know little of what is going on, and Americans who criticize the President without that knowledge is harmful… not helpful. And not a lot of Americans respect the fact that they know perhaps 10% of the total picture.

Transparency in Government? Until that exists, don’t throw stones while you are living in a glass house. More correctly.. don’t throw stones unless your object is also living in a glass house.
