Who was the best President of the United States of America who was a Democrat?

I would say Franklin D. Roosevelt because he had a game plan to get the United States of America out of the Great Depression.
Abraham Lincoln was a Republican and the First Republican President of the United States of America.

Andrew Jackson, Grover Cleveland, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S Truman, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, and Bill Clinton are some of the more famous Dem’s. I would have to say the most effective of any would be Bill Clinton; due to the presidential powers increasing in the public eye. When the president has a high approval rating congress usually concedes to his wishes.

lincoln was a member of the republican party. however at the time the republican party was more liberal than it is today and the democratic party was the more conservative one. thats why you hear the term southern democrat. they used to be the conservative bunch but now the only “southern democrats” who still vote democrat are the old ladies who do it just “cause daddy always said we were better off under democrats” so though he WAS a republican i do think abe lincoln was the greatest liberal president strictly because if he wouldn’t have freed the slaves in the confederate states (he didnt free Union slaves until later) and helped to end the war of northern agression (what you yankees call the civil war) we would all be speaking german right now because we wouldnt have had the military power to stop Hitlers Blitzkrieg. i guess everything does happen for a reason. sorry to subject everyone to a history lesson.

Ain’t no such animal in my book – Dems are all about selfishness and wanting the government to solve all of their problems. They are all about being victims and blaming everyone else for their problems.

Harry Truman came the closest thing that this country has seen to a decent Democrat president – he spoke his mind, did what had to be done, and was a pretty effective leader. He made the tough call to drop atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, to end World War II.

    FDR.

Although all of you people who think that Lincoln is the same republican as todays republican party are just stupid. Lincoln emerged from a very liberal and progressive party that because the republican party. It wasnt until the 1920s that the republicans became more big business oriented and left social welfare and workers concerns to the democrats and socialists. Lincoln would not be a republican today. REd some of his speeches and letters, he is very liberal toward social causes and had some views that today would place him at the far left and in some cases right in the middle of socialist idealogy.
