Does Republican and republic and democrat and democracy related? Are they? Answer that question first. Then answer these:

What is a republican?

What is a democrat?

What ic a republic?

What is a democracy?

I’m just making sure I have the right definitions for them. By the way, I’m talking about the united states here. All answers welcome!

    no the words are similar but not related to each other.

    ‘Republican’ and ‘Democrat’ are the names of the 2 major political parties in the USA

    Republic- is another word for a state or network of states with a common elected leader and government

    democracy- is a form of government where people are allowed to vote for representatives who vote and make laws based on what the people who elected them are in favor of. (ideally thats how it works anyway not always the case in the real world unfortunately)

    Isn’t the English language confusing?? I know it can seem that way. These words are only loosely related to each other, even though they sound very much alike. Democrat is just the name given to the more liberal political party in the US, and Republicans are the more conservative party. However, a Democracy and Republic are both words to describe a government that is chosen by the people (through voting). Dictionary.com is a great site for definitions. I hope that helped!
