What is a Independent party when it comes to politics?

I know what a republican is, what a democrat is, but unsure what a Independent is. Could you please explain this to me?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

  1. personalized favors

A party of people who make up their own minds of who to vote for, not by party affiliation but by what they hear and read and research to learn who the candidates are and how they may behave in their jobs.

An Indenpendent Like myself-chooses a candidate based on issues over individual party-I’m not totally conservative or liberal-middle of the road-so I vote for the candidate that most matches my views-Lou Dobbs in an Independent show on CNN and it’s great !

An Independent is not exactly a party. An independent chooses not to declare for any other party. That does not mean they do not support a candidate from one of the major parties, but they are not Democrat, Republican, Green or Libertarian nor any organized party.
