Power in a democracy rests in the hands of the majority (the poor) without being controlled through law, tax, etc. The rich Minority is at the mercy of the will of the poor. The resulting restricted incentive to gain wealth undermines economic development and the pursuit of a advancement. This question was a primary concern of the drafters of our constitution and of the Russian government.

It doesn’t necessarily. It really depends on whether the poor and middle class have enough to live on. Once the poor and middle class have enough, it’s in the nation’s best interest to improve everyone’s standard together. That’s why Reaganomics was so successful. Although the rich benefited the most, so did everyone else. The idea that a “wave raises all ships” works when there is enough to feed the masses. Good question.

A rising tide drowns all rafts.

Reaganomics was a dismal failure. It was called Voodoo Economics for some very good reasons.
